Leinstrand Church, Heritage church in Leinstrand, Norway
Leinstrand Church is a red wooden building in Trondheim municipality with a long nave and a tower added to its west side in 1905. The structure accommodates around 200 people and continues to host regular services for worshippers.
The church was built in 1673 by architect Ole Jonsen Hindrum, replacing an older 14th-century structure that stood 100 meters to the northeast. Parts of the building collapsed in 1783 due to foundation issues and were later rebuilt using materials from the previous church.
The church serves as a gathering place for the local community of Byneset and Leinstrand, where people come together for services and celebrations. It continues to be central to the rhythms of village life and the spiritual traditions of the region.
The site is accessible by car in a rural area typical of the Trondheim region. Visitors should contact the church in advance if they wish to visit outside of regular service times.
The building incorporates materials from the earlier church that stood at a different location, making it a physical link to multiple periods of local religious history. This reuse of older elements connects different eras of the site's past.
