Hålogaland bridge, Suspension bridge in Narvik Municipality, Norway
This suspension bridge extends 5,113 feet (1,559 meters) across Rombaken fjord with steel cables supporting the deck from two towers that rise 587 feet (179 meters) above the water surface.
The bridge opened to traffic on December 9, 2018, after five years of construction work that began in 2013 as part of a major infrastructure improvement project in northern Norway.
The bridge replaced an earlier ferry service and has become a recognizable landmark in Nordland, offering travelers crossing views of the surrounding fjords and mountains characteristic of the Norwegian Arctic region.
The bridge carries European Route E6 traffic and shortens the highway by approximately 11 miles (18 kilometers), reducing travel time to destinations like Lofoten and Tromsø by 15 to 20 minutes.
With its main span measuring 3,757 feet (1,145 meters), this bridge ranks as Norway's second longest suspension bridge and provides 131 feet (40 meters) of clearance for ship passage underneath.
