The Seamen’s Memorial Hall, Maritime memorial and museum in Tjøme, Norway
The Seamen's Memorial Hall features 32 copper plates displaying the names of 7,562 sailors who perished during naval service to their country.
King Haakon VII inaugurated the memorial in 1926 to commemorate Norwegian sailors who lost their lives during World War I and later World War II.
The interior contains a 32-meter frieze by sculptor Nic Schiøll depicting maritime life, alongside Herman Wildenwey's poetic tribute to seafarers on the main altar.
The pyramid-shaped structure serves as both a memorial beacon and a museum, housing collections of maritime artifacts and personal belongings from different naval eras.
A ceremonial sarcophagus draped in the Norwegian flag stands beneath the sculpture 'Towards the Depth', creating a central point of remembrance within the hall.
