Rauøy Fort is a coastal fortification located on an island in the Oslofjord, with artillery positions, bunkers, and defensive structures spread across the site. The installation offers views over the fjord waters and includes various military buildings from different eras.
The fort became active during the German invasion of 1940 when Norwegian forces fired warning shots at the heavy cruiser Blücher. German occupation forces later enhanced the defenses with additional fortifications and gun installations to control the fjord.
The fort contains preserved military structures from different periods, including Norwegian defense installations and German modifications from World War II.

The site served as a marine artillery training school where military personnel learned coastal defense techniques. This educational role made it an important training center before and during the occupation period.
