Veldre Church, Heritage church in Byflaten, Norway.
Veldre Church is a wooden building in Ringsaker Municipality with a 30-meter tower positioned above the choir at the eastern end. The structure features a spacious main hall and a separate octagonal chapel positioned near the entrance.
Records mention a church at this location starting in 1332, but the current building was constructed after a fire destroyed the previous structure in 1996. The new church was completed in 2000, drawing on both traditional and contemporary architectural approaches.
The church serves as a spiritual center for the Bromunddal and Veldre community, where residents gather for worship and important life events. It holds meaning as a place where local traditions and faith are practiced together.
The main hall seats approximately 275 people, while the octagonal chapel provides additional seating for about 30 visitors. This layout allows for different events to be held at the same time or smaller groups to meet separately.
Architects Ulf Zettersten and Roar Jacobsen designed the building to deliberately blend traditional Norwegian timber construction with contemporary spatial concepts. This combination makes the church a notable example of how modern design can respect the continuity of a long-established place.
