Rockheim, History museum in Midtbyen, Norway.
Rockheim is a music museum located in central Trondheim that presents Norwegian musical history across multiple exhibition floors totaling 1,320 square meters (14,200 square feet). The permanent display called The Time Tunnel showcases decades of Norwegian music and how it evolved over time.
The building opened in 2010 inside a converted grain warehouse from 1919 located at Brattørkaia in Trondheim. A sixth floor was added with a glass-enclosed cantilevered design that extends the museum upward and defines its modern appearance.
The museum documents Norwegian popular music from the 1950s onward through interactive displays where you can explore different genres and musical practices. Visitors can engage directly with the exhibits to understand how music shaped and reflects Norwegian society.
The museum sits just five minutes walk from Trondheim Central Station, making it easy to reach on foot. Plan to spend two to three hours exploring the different exhibition areas at your own pace.
The museum features dedicated learning spaces including the Ronni Room for guitar practice and the Hiphop Room with DJ equipment and breakdance demonstrations. These hands-on areas let visitors actually try different music styles instead of just watching from a distance.
