Lysøen

Villa d'Ole Bull is a museum building on Lysøen island that blends Norwegian architecture with international design influences. The structure features towers, an onion dome, and detailed wooden decorations throughout its exterior.

The estate was built between 1872 and 1873 and served the Norwegian violinist Ole Bull as a summer residence until his death in 1880. The architecture reflects the artistic ambitions and worldwide travel experiences of its builder.

The house was the summer home of a celebrated violinist and reflects his passion for music. Today, concerts are held regularly in the large music room, keeping this artistic tradition alive.

The house sits on an island and is reached by foot across a walkway. Visitors should expect changing weather conditions and wear sturdy shoes.

The grounds surrounding the house were designed by Ole Bull himself and contain trees and plants from different parts of the world. This botanical collection reflects his love of nature and his many international travels.
