Trollpikken, Rock formation in Eigersund Municipality, Norway
Trollpikken is a vertical stone formation made of anorthosite that rises from a mountain plateau in Norway. The rock stands out distinctly from the surrounding landscape and displays the typical geological features of Magma terrain.
The stone formed about one billion years ago from ancient magma and was later shaped by glacial movements during the last ice age. After the ice retreated around 10,000 years ago, it remained fixed in its current position.
The name references Norwegian troll folklore, and the 2017 restoration demonstrated how deeply the community treasured this landmark. Local residents rallied together to rebuild what vandals had damaged, showing its importance to the region.
The site is accessible via a marked trail from the parking area and sits in typical mountain terrain. Sturdy footwear with good grip is important, as the path can be muddy and slippery depending on weather conditions.
The formation was destroyed by vandals in 2017, but the community raised funds within two weeks to restore it. Steel rods and epoxy were used to rebuild this 12-ton stone.
