Camiguin

Camiguin is a province in the Northern Mindanao region of the Philippines that encompasses several volcanic formations and features tropical vegetation. Mount Hibok-Hibok shapes the appearance of the island and serves as a natural landmark for visitors and residents.

The island changed from a sub-province in 1958 to an independent province and thus gained more administrative autonomy in the region. This transformation allowed the local government to manage directly without oversight from larger neighboring territories.

The Lanzones Festival celebrates the harvest of the namesake fruit and brings residents together with music and street parades that showcase the island's agricultural tradition. Visitors experience colorful costumes and can try local dishes prepared from the harvested fruits.

Ferry connections to the ports of Benoni and Balingoan on the Mindanao mainland run regularly and offer travelers access to the island. Flights land at Mambajao airport, located in the northern part of the province and allowing for faster arrival.

The province contains more active volcanoes per area than any other territory in the country, which has attracted geologists for decades. Hikers find trails here that pass through former lava fields and offer insights into past eruptions.
