Laoag International Airport, main airport serving the general area of Laoag City in the Philippines
Laoag International Airport is an airport in the city of Laoag, in the province of Ilocos Norte in the northern Philippines, serving both domestic and international routes. The terminal has check-in counters, security screening, a baggage claim area, and separate sections for arrivals and departures.
The site was first developed by Americans before World War II as Gabu Airfield. After being damaged during the war, it was rebuilt in 1945 and gradually turned into a civilian passenger airport.
This airport serves as a gathering point where people from different places meet before traveling to the northern Philippines. Both local residents and visitors pass through this space as they start or complete their journeys.
The airport sits a short drive from downtown Laoag and is easy to reach by taxi or private car. For international flights, arriving early is a good idea, as wait times at check-in and immigration can vary.
In 2017, the historic Breitling DC-3 landed here during a round-the-world flight, one of the oldest airworthy DC-3s still flying at the time. This stop made the airport part of a rare chapter in aviation history that most travelers passing through would never know about.
