Centennial Tower, Modern tower in Manila, Philippines
Centennial Tower is a modern high-rise building in Manila that rises to about 150 meters tall with a base diameter of around 60 meters. The structure houses office spaces, retail areas, restaurants, observation decks, and telecommunications facilities distributed across its different levels.
The project was created in 1998 to commemorate one hundred years of Philippine independence from Spanish colonial rule. The building was designed by architect Francisco Mañosa to mark this significant milestone in the nation's modern history.
The tower's design draws inspiration from the traditional bamboo torch, a symbol deeply rooted in Philippine heritage and identity. This connection to local tradition gives the building meaning beyond its modern function.
The building offers observation decks and restaurants with city views and is easily accessible from Julia Vargas Avenue in Pasig. Visitors should wear comfortable clothing and expect to spend extended time in an air-conditioned environment.
The original site for this building was planned in Rizal Park but was moved to Julia Vargas Avenue due to concerns about protecting nearby historical monuments. This relocation happened after discussions about respecting the city's important heritage sites.
