Lubao Church

Lubao Church is a baroque structure built with solid brick and stone walls that convey strength and permanence through their substantial thickness. The building displays classical baroque design with its distinctive proportions and architectural elements characteristic of the period.

Spanish Augustinian missionaries founded the original chapel in 1572 using wooden and nipa materials as a religious outpost in the area. The structure later evolved into the stone building that has endured and undergone various modifications over the centuries.

The church serves as the spiritual center for the local community and hosts traditional religious celebrations throughout the year. Its role in daily life remains visible through the steady flow of visitors and residents who gather there for worship and community events.

The site is accessible during daytime hours and best explored when sunlight illuminates the interior details and architectural features. Visitors should allow time to look around at their own pace and wear respectful clothing when visiting this religious site.

An early printing operation from the 1600s ran from a convent connected to the church and produced religious texts and teaching materials for the area. This workshop was among the first of its kind in the region and helped spread knowledge to the local population.
