Lucky Chinatown, shopping mall in Manila, Philippines
Lucky Chinatown is a shopping and dining complex in Binondo, Manila, spread across five floors with over a hundred retail stores, restaurants, and cafes. It also contains a supermarket and a cinema, making it one of the larger commercial buildings in the district.
The complex opened in 2012 as part of an effort to bring new activity to Binondo, a district that has served as a center of Filipino-Chinese trade since the 16th century. Binondo is widely considered one of the oldest Chinatowns in the world.
On the fourth floor, a museum traces the story of the Filipino-Chinese community through objects and displays visitors can walk through. The exhibition gives a concrete sense of how this group shaped commercial life in Manila over the centuries.
The mall is open every day and tends to be much quieter on weekdays than on weekends, which makes moving around easier. It is within walking distance of several landmarks in Binondo and easy to navigate once inside.
Inside the complex, a section called Chinatown Walk recreates the feel of narrow market alleys found in older Chinese trading towns, with specialized goods not easy to find elsewhere in the city. This area draws local shoppers looking for specific ingredients, goods, and items tied to Chinese traditions.
