New Manila International Airport, Proposed airport development in Bulakan, Philippines
The New Manila International Airport is being built on reclaimed land along Manila Bay, combining terminal buildings, runway zones, and transport links for air travel. The footprint covers roughly 2500 hectares of newly created shoreline and will house a complete aviation complex once finished.
In September 2019, San Miguel Corporation and the Department of Transportation signed an agreement worth 734 billion pesos to develop the airport. Construction began in March 2022 and includes the reclamation of coastal areas as the foundation for the site.
The project integrates local community development through skills training programs and employment opportunities for residents near the construction site.
The plan calls for four runways, with the possibility of expanding to six in later phases to handle future air traffic. The facility is designed to serve up to 200 million passengers per year once fully operational.
Dutch firm Boskalis Westminster is carrying out their largest land reclamation project to date, pumping millions of cubic meters of sand and rock into shallow waters. The material is sourced from nearby seabeds and compacted layer by layer to create a stable platform for the airport facilities.
