Gwadar, Port city in Balochistan, Pakistan.
Gwadar is a port city on the Arabian Sea coast in Balochistan province, serving as a gateway for maritime trade. The town sits on a peninsula surrounded by dry hills and rocky shorelines, with modern docks and warehouses lining the waterfront.
The Sultanate of Oman took control of the area in the 18th century and held it for over two centuries. Pakistan purchased the territory back in 1958 and gradually transformed the small fishing harbor into a modern seaport.
Local fishermen still use small wooden boats to bring in their catch each morning, as families have done here for generations. The daily fish market near the harbor remains a meeting point where Balochi is spoken and fresh seafood is sold right off the boats.
The Makran Coastal Highway runs along the shore and connects the town to other settlements in the region. The hot and dry climate with mild winters makes the months from November to March the most comfortable for visitors.
The town sits on a narrow headland that divides the water into two bays, creating natural shelter for vessels. A technical institute trains residents in port operations and logistics, preparing them for work in the expanding facilities.
