Puławy, Municipality in eastern Lublin Voivodeship, Poland

Puławy is a town in eastern Poland's Lublin Voivodeship, located where the Kurówka flows into the Vistula. Streets run parallel to the river through residential neighborhoods and industrial areas at an elevation of 115 meters.

The settlement gained official status in 1501 and rose in prominence when Prince Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski built a palace between 1676 and 1679. Later the Czartoryski family took over the estate and developed it into an important cultural center.

The name derives from the Polish word for willows that once grew along the riverbanks. Today locals use the riverside promenade for walks and gather at cafés around the market square.

The town sits 46 kilometers northwest of Lublin and connects through several daily bus services. The central bus station near the market square provides access to different parts of the municipality.

Marshal Józef Piłsudski set up his military headquarters here during the Polish-Soviet War in 1920. From this base he coordinated the successful operations against Soviet forces.
