Śmigiel lies 52 kilometers from Poznań at an altitude of 96 meters, covering an area of 189 square kilometers with 17,543 inhabitants.
The settlement received its town rights in 1415 and belonged to Polish nobility within the Poznań Voivodeship of the Greater Poland Province.
The town maintains an active partnership with Neufchâteau and preserves local traditions through its municipal administrative functions in the Kościan County.
