Krzyżowa, Świdnica County, Village in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
Krzyżowa is a village in Lower Silesian Voivodeship located in the Świdnica region, surrounded by farmland and traditional Polish farmhouses. The settlement sits at approximately 230 meters elevation and preserves several historical structures now used for cultural and educational purposes.
The settlement was first documented in 1250 as Krzyzovo and later served as the residence of the von Moltke family. After World War II, the village became a center for European understanding and exchange between nations.
The International Youth Meeting Centre organizes exchange programs for young people from Poland and Germany. Participants gather in restored historical buildings to learn from one another and build connections.
The village is located roughly 10 kilometers southeast of Świdnica and about 50 kilometers southwest of Wrocław, making it accessible by car. Visitors can find basic lodging options for groups and individual travelers, particularly those interested in participating in exchange programs.
In 1989, Polish Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl held talks here that laid groundwork for German-Polish reconciliation. This meeting was a symbolically significant moment following the fall of the Berlin Wall.
