Warsaw Chopin Airport, International airport in Warsaw, Poland.
Warsaw Chopin Airport is an international airport in Okęcie, Poland, with terminals and cargo facilities for daily operations. Passengers find check-in counters, security checkpoints, waiting areas and baggage claim belts on several levels connected by escalators and elevators.
The airport opened in 1934 as Warsaw-Okęcie and served connections across Europe before the war. After heavy wartime damage, it was rebuilt, and expansions in the decades that followed turned it into the main air travel hub for the country.
In 2001, the airport received its current name to honor Frederic Chopin, reflecting the profound influence of the Polish composer.
A direct train service links the terminal to the city center in about 20 minutes, with several bus lines running around the clock as well. Arrivals and departures share the same building, and signs guide travelers to platforms, taxi stands and rental car areas.
An old control tower from the 1930s still stands on the grounds, serving as an office building after a modern tower replaced it. Passengers at certain gates on the southern side can spot vintage military aircraft parked at the neighboring museum grounds through the large terminal windows.
