The 185-meter-long cobblestone street extends from St. Mary's Church to the Motława River, featuring distinctive elevated stone terraces along both sides.
During the Middle Ages, numerous shoemaking workshops operated along the street, which was initially shorter due to marshy terrain until the construction of St. Mary's Gate.
The street displays architectural elements of old Gdańsk, including ornate portals, stone steps, and gargoyles that demonstrate the craftsmanship of medieval merchants.
The pedestrian-only thoroughfare contains multiple amber jewelry shops and artisan workshops, with miniature buses of line 100 crossing the street periodically.
Each terraced entrance contains intricate stone carvings of animals, mythical creatures, and geometric patterns, creating an open-air gallery of medieval architectural details.
