Włoszczowa

Włoszczowa is a city in Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Poland, with remains spanning multiple periods in its center. The town shows traces of a fortified settlement from the 12th century alongside ruins of a 16th-century castle, both visible features that define its character.

In 1154, Prince Henry of Sandomierz granted the village, then called Vloszcova, to the Order of Saint John monks for settlement. This founding by a religious order shaped the place's early growth and importance in the region.

The town maintains its original street layout from the 16th century, organized according to medieval planning principles of that era. This arrangement still shapes how the place looks and feels today, reflecting how people structured their communities back then.

The town has two railway stations offering regional train connections to larger Polish cities. Its position at a junction of main roads also makes it accessible for those traveling by vehicle.

The castle ruins sit on land marked by traces of a defensive moat, revealing details about the original fortification. These archaeological remnants show how medieval engineering is literally embedded in the ground here.
