Gmina Chybie, Administrative division in Cieszyn County, Poland.
Gmina Chybie is a rural municipality in Cieszyn County, in the Silesian Voivodeship of southern Poland. It is made up of several villages set among fields, meadows, and patches of woodland.
The area was part of the Habsburg Empire for centuries before becoming part of Poland in 1920 after the First World War. These border changes left a lasting mark on the mix of people and traditions found here.
The name Chybie comes from an old Slavic root, pointing to a settlement that goes back many centuries. Visitors walking through the villages today still notice small roadside chapels and crosses that locals continue to maintain.
A car is the most practical way to move between the villages, as public transport connections are limited. Spring and summer are good times to visit, when the countryside is at its most open and local life spills outdoors.
A sugar factory founded in 1884 was the main employer in the area for well over a century. It closed only in the early 2000s, making it one of the longest-running industrial sites in this part of Silesia.
