Skoki, Municipality in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland
Skoki is a municipality in Greater Poland Voivodeship situated about 34 kilometers west of Poznań. The town and its surrounding area feature flat terrain at an elevation of about 71 meters above sea level.
Founded in 1367, the town originated as a privately owned settlement under noble families. Over centuries it changed administrative control but maintained its role as a regional center.
The name comes from the Polish word for jumps, referring to natural waterfalls once found in the area. This connection to the landscape remains part of the local identity.
As a small municipality, Skoki is easy to explore and offers a quiet alternative to nearby Poznań. The flat landscape makes orientation straightforward whether traveling on foot or by bicycle.
During World War II, the town housed Oflag XXI-A, a prisoner-of-war camp primarily for French officers. This facility marked a significant chapter in the local experience of that conflict.
