Jarosław, Historical municipality in Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland
Jarosław is a municipality on the San River in Subcarpathian Voivodeship and forms the center of the county bearing the same name. The buildings spread across both riverbanks, with the market square and stone religious structures located in the older section.
First mentioned in 1152, the settlement received town rights following the Magdeburg model from Duke Władysław Opolczyk in 1375. Over the following centuries, this became an important fairground at the crossroads of old trade routes.
The Orsetti House displays regional collections from past centuries and preserves evidence from the era of trade routes. Visitors can trace how closely this town was once connected with merchants from many countries.
The municipality lies about 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Rzeszów and is easily reached by regional roads and bus lines. Those wishing to explore the older core should start at the market square and then follow the lanes toward the riverbank.
On the feast of the Assumption during the Middle Ages, traders from Spain, England, and Persia met at the annual fair. This market turned the town into a crossroads between East and West, where goods and ideas from three continents came together.
