The settlement first appeared in written records in the early 15th century and later received city rights under a different name for a brief period. Despite this change, it retained its original identity and continued developing as a local center.
The establishment of a wooden Roman Catholic parish church in 1458 by the Ramsza family marked the beginning of religious development in this settlement.

The settlement experienced multiple transformations through centuries, surviving Tatar raids, fires, plagues, and maintaining its original name despite a brief period as Hieronimow.
