Intraco I, Skyscraper in Warsaw, Poland.
Intraco I is a skyscraper in Warsaw, Poland, standing 138 meters tall on the border between the Srodmiescie and Zoliborz districts. It has 39 floors and a glass curtain wall finished in a light green tone that sets it apart from the surrounding buildings.
The building was completed in 1975 by the Swedish company Byggnadsproduktion AB, and it was among the first towers of its kind to rise in Warsaw after the war. It appeared at a time when the city was beginning to add large office towers to its center.
The tower sits on the edge between two neighborhoods, which gives it a position that many people in Warsaw use as a reference point when moving between the city center and the northern districts. Its color makes it easy to spot from a distance, even in overcast weather.
The tower stands close to Dworzec Gdanski metro station, which makes it easy to reach by public transport. The building is mainly used for offices, so public access is limited to the entrance area.
When it was completed, the building had a grey-blue ceramic exterior that looked very different from what stands there today. A full renovation in 1998 replaced that cladding with the current glass curtain wall, giving it an appearance so different that it is hard to recognize in old photographs.
