Altarpiece of Veit Stoss, Gothic altarpiece at St Mary's Basilica, Kraków, Poland
The wooden altarpiece measures 13 meters in height and 11 meters in width, containing over 200 figures carved from lime wood by Veit Stoss.
Created between 1477 and 1489, the altarpiece was funded by Kraków residents and later survived World War II after being hidden from Nazi forces.
The panels display twelve detailed scenes from the lives of Jesus and Mary, including the Annunciation, Dormition, and Resurrection of Christ.
Visitors can view the altarpiece daily at St Mary's Basilica, where it stands behind the high altar in the center of the church.
The altarpiece contains figures reaching 2.7 meters in height, with each character expressing distinct emotions through detailed facial features and postures.
