Sorkwity

Sorkwity is a village in the Masuria region situated between two lakes with a Neo-Gothic palace as its focal point. Forests and water bodies surround the settlement, creating a landscape shaped by lakes and woodlands.

The Teutonic Order founded the settlement in 1379 under Grand Master Winrich von Kniprode, granting the land to brothers Christian and Otto von Oelsen. This establishment shaped the early development of the community in the Prussian territory.

The village keeps local traditions alive through seasonal celebrations that mark the rhythm of community life. The church building stands as a spiritual center where residents and visitors experience the religious heritage of the region.

The village provides direct access to the Krutynia water trail, a popular paddling route through lakes and waterways in the region. Visitors should plan water-based activities in fair weather and bring appropriate gear for such expeditions.

A 19th-century railway viaduct spans the landscape as one of the few remaining structures from the East Prussian industrial period. This engineering work stands unexpectedly amid the natural surroundings and reveals the region's railway heritage.
