Miłakowo, Municipality in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland
Miłakowo is a small town and the seat of the gmina of the same name in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship of northeastern Poland, situated along the Miłakówka River. Its center is compact, with a church tower visible from most streets and a mix of residential buildings and local shops surrounding the main square.
The settlement grew up around 1315 near a Teutonic Order castle founded by Henryk von Liebenzell. In 1490, Grand Master Hans von Tieffen granted the town expanded municipal rights, strengthening its role in the region.
The Warmianki folk ensemble, based here, performs songs and dances rooted in the Warmia and Masuria region, keeping local traditions alive through community events. Visitors can often catch their performances at the local cultural center.
Miłakowo is easy to reach from Morąg by car or local bus, and the town offers basic shops and services for a short stop. It works well as a starting point for exploring the surrounding Masurian countryside and lake areas nearby.
The parish church was built between 1360 and 1380, making it one of the oldest standing buildings in the area. Just nearby, a Jewish cemetery with gravestones from the late 1800s marks the presence of a community that no longer exists here.
