Kurzętnik

Kurzętnik is a village in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship located along the Drwęca River and was once the center of a castle complex. The stone walls of this fortress remain visible and shape the village's character through their architectural layers from different periods.

The fortress was built in the mid-14th century as a strategic stronghold for the Teutonic Knights in this region. It served as an important defensive position during the era of major conflicts but gradually lost importance and was eventually abandoned.

The name Kurzętnik reflects the settlement period under the Teutonic Knights and remains part of the region's local identity. The ruins show how stone construction and fortifications shaped the landscape and organized daily life for residents of the time.

The village is located in the region southwest of Olsztyn and is easily accessible by car or bus. The ruins lie directly within the settlement and can be freely visited without any entrance fees.

The fortress was built on a natural cliff formation that provided inherent defensive advantages for its inhabitants. This geological feature made the location ideal for establishing a stronghold without additional earthworks.
