National Library of Poland, Research library in Warsaw, Poland.
The National Library of Poland is a research library in Warsaw housing approximately 9.7 million items, including manuscripts, books, journals, and digital publications from across the country. The building contains specialized reading rooms and public exhibition spaces for visitors to explore.
The institution was founded as the Załuski Library in 1747 and became the National Library in 1928. It suffered major losses during World War II but was later rebuilt and expanded.
The library preserves Polish literature through a legal deposit system that requires submission of every book published within the country. Visitors can see how the nation's cultural heritage is gathered and protected for future generations.
The building is located at Al. Niepodległości 213 in Warsaw and opens Monday through Saturday from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM, with registration required upon arrival. Visitors should check ahead about which areas are open to the public, as some collections have restricted access.
The collection holds the Codex Suprasliensis, a manuscript registered in UNESCO's Memory of the World programme since 2007. This medieval document is a rare record of early Slavic written culture.
