Kłecko, Historic municipality in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland
Kłecko is a small town and municipality in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, in the western part of the country. It consists of a compact urban center alongside several villages and hamlets that belong to the same administrative unit.
Kłecko received its town charter in 1265, placing it among the older settlements in the Greater Poland region. In September 1939, during the German occupation, hundreds of local residents were killed, a tragedy that remains part of the town's memory.
The central market square follows the classic layout of medieval Polish towns, with an open space surrounded by buildings from different periods. On market days, residents from the town and nearby villages gather here, giving the square a role it has held for centuries.
The town sits in a rural area, so having your own vehicle makes it easier to explore the surrounding municipality. The nearest larger city, Gniezno, is reachable by bus and offers more options for accommodation.
Kłecko sits within the historical heartland of Greater Poland, the region considered the birthplace of the Polish state, where key political events took place before the year 1000. This proximity to early centers of power sets it apart from many other small towns of similar size.
