Krasnobród, Resort town in Lublin Voivodeship, Poland
Krasnobród is a resort town in the Wieprz Valley, nestled between Roztocze National Park and Krasnobród Landscape Park at approximately 500 meters elevation. The town functions as a rehabilitation center with year-round sanatoriums treating respiratory and musculoskeletal conditions.
The town received its charter in 1576 from King Sigismund III Vasa and subsequently became property of several noble families. The rule of the Lipski, Leszczynski, and Zamoyski dynasties left lasting marks on the town's development.
The Visitation Church and former Dominican monastery reflect the region's religious diversity, while two Jewish cemeteries mark the presence of different communities throughout its past. These sites shape the character of the town and reveal its multicultural heritage.
The town is accessible year-round, with winter offering skiing on Chelmowa Mountain and summer featuring water activities on the artificial lake and Wieprz River. Visitors should plan according to the season and prepare for changing weather conditions.
The two Jewish cemeteries stand as quiet witnesses to a vanished community and document an important chapter of regional history. Visitors often discover here a moving piece of the past that rarely appears in typical travel guides.
