Chrobry Oak

The Chrobry Oak is an ancient tree in Gmina Szprotawa, Poland, and ranks among the oldest living oaks in the country. Its thick trunk and far-reaching branches form a large crown that rises several meters above the forest floor.

The name of the tree honours Bolesław I, the first king of Poland, who ruled from 992 to 1025. The oak has survived for many centuries and is considered a living witness from the era of the early Polish monarchy.

The oak attracts numerous visitors who gather around its base to participate in traditional ceremonies and educational programs about natural heritage.

Visitors can reach the oak along marked paths through the forest that start from the main road. Information boards nearby explain the significance of the tree and provide guidance on its protection and conservation.

Researchers have counted more than 40 species of insects and small animals living in the cracks of the bark and in the hollows of the trunk. This diversity makes the tree an important habitat within the forest.
