Unity Tower, Unfinished skyscraper at Mogilskie roundabout, Poland
Unity Tower is a building that stands 102.5 meters tall with 27 floors at the crossing of major transportation routes in central Kraków. The completed structure brings together office space, hotel rooms, residential apartments, and commercial areas across 85,000 square meters.
Construction began in 1975 for the Polish Federation of Engineering Associations, but financial troubles stopped the project in 1979 and left only the concrete frame standing. Work resumed decades later and the building was finally completed in 2020.
Local residents gave this building the nickname Szkieletor because its skeletal frame reminded them of the villain from the Masters of the Universe television series. The unofficial name became part of everyday conversation in the city and appeared in local jokes and street art.
The building sits at Rondo Mogilskie, a busy junction accessible by foot, tram, or bus. Sidewalks around the area make it easy to approach from different directions.
For more than three decades, the incomplete concrete frame stood as the tallest structure in the historic district, taller than Saint Mary's Church. The gray concrete skeleton became a landmark of socialist planning troubles and a photo subject for generations of residents.
