Wąsowo Castle, Renaissance palace in Wąsowo, Poland.
Wąsowo Castle is a palace in Wąsowo, in the Greater Poland region of Poland, featuring white rendered walls and corner towers on its main body. The building has symmetrical wings on each side, ornate window surrounds, and is set within a landscaped park that surrounds it on all sides.
The castle was built in the 16th century as a residence for a noble family and changed hands several times over the following centuries. A major rebuilding in the 19th century gave it much of the appearance it has today.
The name Wąsowo comes from an old Polish personal name tied to the local noble families who shaped the area. Visitors walking through the interior today can still see painted ceilings and plasterwork that reflect the tastes of the people who once lived here.
The palace sits in the center of the small village of Wąsowo and is easy to find on foot once you arrive by car. Plan to spend some extra time in the surrounding park, which is worth walking through on its own.
The park around the palace contains a collection of old trees, some of which are classified as natural monuments and were already standing before the current building took its present form. Walking slowly through the park, visitors can spot labeled specimens and get a sense of the grounds as they looked generations ago.
