Janowice Wielkie, Village in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland

Janowice Wielkie is a village in Lower Silesian Voivodeship in southwestern Poland, situated about 14 kilometers east of Jelenia Góra at the base of the Silesian Mountains. It serves as the administrative center of its district and is home to roughly 2,100 residents in a quiet rural setting.

Before 1945, the settlement operated under the German name Jannowitz before transitioning to Polish administration after World War II. The shifting borders that affected this region reflect its position at a crossroads of European history.

The two churches here, Christ the King and the Assumption of Mary, shape the village center with their local architectural styles. They reflect how faith has been woven into the community's identity for generations.

The village lies in a hilly area with good road access and offers easy entry to hiking trails in the Silesian Mountains. As a district center, it provides basic services and serves as a natural base for exploring the surrounding countryside.

The ruins of Bolczów Castle stand nearby at 561 meters elevation, bearing marks from a Swedish attack in 1643. This abandoned fortress offers a window into the military past of the region.
