Anlage Süd, Military headquarters in Stępina, Poland
Anlage Süd is a military bunker in Stępina that stretches roughly 480 meters along a railway line and is protected by reinforced concrete walls 2 meters thick with armored doors. The complex includes tunnel structures and multiple military installations built around the rail tracks.
The bunker complex was used during World War II by Nazi Germany as a protected location for Hitler's command train and other Wehrmacht military trains. After the war, the Soviet Union took over the facility and used it for its own military purposes.
The site displays German and Soviet military artifacts from both occupations, including uniforms, weapons, and photographs from each period. Visitors can observe how the two powers differed in their equipment design and organization.
The site can be explored on foot, with tunnel structures well accessible and informative displays distributed throughout the grounds. Wearing sturdy shoes is recommended since the ground can be uneven and some areas are damp.
The complex hosted a meeting between Hitler and Mussolini in August 1941, with their separate trains stationed at different sections of the site. This event made it one of the rare locations where both dictators were present at the same time.
