Marzęcino, Rural village in Nowy Dwór Gdański County, Poland.
Marzęcino is a village in Gmina Nowy Dwór Gdański, in the northern part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland. It runs along the Paniński Canal in a flat lowland setting near the Vistula Delta.
The village grew from two separate settlements: Jungfer was a fishing community dating from the 14th century, while Keitlan was founded by Olender colonists in the 17th century. Over time, the two communities merged into what is now known as Marzęcino.
The timber-framed church with red brick infill stands at the heart of the village and reflects the building traditions of the region. Its interior decorations from the 19th century are still in place today.
The village sits in a flat lowland area where most paths are unpaved and can become muddy in wet weather. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, especially if you plan to walk along the canal.
A sluice built in 1884 in the northern part of the village was designed to protect the surrounding land from water pressure coming from the Vistula Lagoon. It stands as a reminder of how much effort went into making this low-lying land livable.
