Botanic Garden of the Jagiellonian University

The Botanic Garden of the Jagiellonian University is a large garden divided into sections for different types of plants. It contains greenhouses with tropical species, areas for medicinal herbs, sections for alpine plants, and an older palace building used for scientific work.

The garden was founded at the end of the 18th century and was the first botanical institution in its country. Later, the land shifted focus from astronomical observation to botanical studies.

The garden has long served as a place for teaching and scientific study at the university. Walking through the different plant sections, you can sense the connection between research and nature as you encounter the historical buildings scattered throughout.

The garden is located in the city and easy to reach during the week, though opening times vary by season. It helps to wear shoes with good grip since pathways can be uneven, and the greenhouses are warm and humid inside.

The garden shelters a massive tree that is over 500 years old and continues to grow. In addition, it holds a rare collection of cycad plants gathered through expeditions from the Americas.
