Bastion III "Kleparz", Military fort in northern Kraków, Poland.
Bastion III "Kleparz" is a military fort in Kraków with brick construction and earthen embankments surrounded by a moat. The structure features double caponiers on its outer perimeter and was built as part of a larger fortification system.
The fort was built between 1860 and 1866 as part of the Kraków Fortress and served as a detention center for Soviet prisoners during World War II. This shift from military stronghold to wartime prison reflects the structure's changing role throughout history.
The structure stands as an example of 19th-century military engineering, displaying decorative window frames and wooden gates with arrow slits throughout the complex.
Today the interior houses a wine cellar and a music venue where visitors can experience cultural events and performances. Parking in the inner courtyard provides convenient access to the site.
The interior is distinguished by extensive vaulted casemate corridors that form an underground network throughout the site. These passages connect different areas and create a layered experience below ground level.
