Karol Poznański's palace

Karol Poznański's palace, Renaissance Revival palace in Old Polesie, Łódź, Poland.

Karol Poznański's palace is a Renaissance Revival structure in the historic Old Polesie district of Łódź, featuring double windows, rusticated facades, and an oval corner tower crowned by an elliptical dome. Ornamental wrought-iron fencing encloses the property, and visitors enter through a vaulted gateway accessible from 1 Maja Street.

The building was designed in 1904 by architect Adolf Zeligson and served as the residence of Karol Poznański, an influential industrialist in Łódź's development. The architectural style reflects the wealth and status this entrepreneur accumulated through his business ventures in the city.

The palace now houses the Academy of Music in Łódź, where visitors encounter a curved staircase with wrought-iron railings and ornate ceilings. These spaces serve as concert halls and teaching studios, showing how a family home transformed into a center for artistic life.

The palace is easily reached from the historic Old Polesie area and can be explored on foot around the exterior grounds. Note that the building now functions as a music academy with active classes, so it is best visited during public events or scheduled open times.

The interior features a winter garden beneath a glass roof, visible from the palace park, filled with magnolia bushes that flower in spring. Many visitors overlook this quiet green space while focusing on the grand staircase and exterior facades.
