Zbylitowska Góra, Village in Tarnów County, Poland
Zbylitowska Góra is a village located about 9 kilometers southwest of Tarnów in southern Poland's Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The settlement is known primarily for the Buczyna forest memorial area, which contains historical sites and monuments documenting World War II events.
The village was occupied by German forces in September 1939, after which execution sites were established in the nearby forest. Approximately 10,000 people were killed in mass killings between 1942 and 1943.
The memorial site in the Buczyna forest honors Jewish and Polish victims through monuments and information displays that visitors can see today. The place serves as a space where people gather to remember those who suffered during World War II.
The village is accessible from Tarnów by regular bus connections, and the memorial site remains open year-round for visitors. Plan to spend a few hours exploring the grounds and visiting the monuments.
The forest contains mass graves where 6,000 Jewish residents from the Tarnów Ghetto were killed, including approximately 800 children from an orphanage. This scale reveals how systematically such killings were carried out.
