Gniew Castle

Gniew Castle is a medieval fortress with four wings arranged around a central courtyard and defensive towers at each corner. The brick walls display typical Gothic architecture from Northern Europe with thick masonry and structured layout.

The fortress was founded in 1283 by the Teutonic Knights to control trade routes along the Vistula River. It later passed under Polish control and underwent various modifications throughout the centuries.

The castle displays exhibitions of medieval weapons and artifacts that reflect daily life and craftsmanship from the region's past. These collections help visitors understand how people lived and worked during that era.

The castle is accessible most days and visitors can explore the towers and underground sections. Comfortable shoes are recommended since you will climb stairs and walk across paved courtyards.

Inside the fortress, craftsmen work on recreating medieval weapons and armor using historical metalworking methods. These workshops demonstrate the techniques and labor that went into producing military equipment from that period.
