Trześcianka, Traditional Orthodox village in Podlaskie Voivodeship, Poland.
Trześcianka is a small village in the Podlaskie region of northeastern Poland, within the administrative area of Gmina Narew. The houses line a single main road, surrounded by flat meadows and forest, giving the settlement a compact, rural character.
The village has deep roots in the Orthodox Belarusian community that settled across this part of Podlachia over many generations. The construction of the Orthodox church in the 19th century marked a visible sign of that lasting presence.
Trześcianka is sometimes called the "painted village" because of the rows of wooden houses decorated with geometric patterns and flower motifs along the main street. Each facade is different, and walking along the road feels like reading a visual record of local woodworking traditions.
The village is reachable by local roads from nearby towns such as Narew and Hajnówka, but having your own vehicle is useful since public transport in this rural area is very limited. A short walk along the main road is enough to see most of the wooden houses.
The decorated wooden facades of Trześcianka attracted enough attention that the village road has been called one of the finest examples of rural wooden architecture in Poland. Many of the ornamental details are hand-carved, and no two houses carry the same pattern.
