The settlement dates back to the 15th century and emerged from the division of Uniczowy village into three separate communities during that period.
The district includes the MDK Południe Cultural Center, which organizes activities and events for local residents throughout the year.
The area connects to central Katowice through the Armii Krajowej street and maintains a railway station on line 139 for public transportation.
After a fire in 1806, Podlesie became the first village in the Pszczyna region to rebuild using brick structures instead of wooden buildings.
