Podlesie

Podlesie is a residential district in the southern part of Katowice, featuring a mix of single-family homes and modern apartment complexes. The area sits near the Mleczna River and has a varied housing structure suited to different needs.

The settlement dates to the 15th century when the village of Uniczowy was divided into three separate communities. This division shaped the foundation of the communities in this region today.

The district hosts the MDK Południe Cultural Center, which regularly organizes events and activities for residents. This venue serves as a gathering place for the local community.

The district connects to central Katowice via Armii Krajowej street and has a railway station on line 139. These connections make it easy to move around within and beyond the neighborhood.

After a fire in 1806, the area became the first settlement in the Pszczyna region to rebuild using stone instead of wood. This early adoption of stone construction was remarkable for its time.
