Wolimierz, Mountain village in Lower Silesia, Poland.
Wolimierz is a village in Gmina Leśna in the Lower Silesia region of Poland, set in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains. The settlement is made up of scattered houses surrounded by forest and gentle hills that gradually rise toward the mountain range.
The village was known as Volkersdorf under German administration until the end of World War II, when the region was transferred to Poland. It was then resettled by Polish inhabitants and given its current name.
The old train station in the village has been turned into a cultural space called Stacja Wolimierz, hosting theater performances and international festivals. Artists and visitors from many countries come here throughout the year, making it a place where local rural life and creative work meet.
The village is best reached by car, as public transport connections in this part of Lower Silesia are limited. Hiking trails in the surrounding hills are most accessible in spring and summer, when the paths are dry and easy to walk.
Wolimierz still has houses built in the Umgebindehaus style, a construction method found only in the border region shared by Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic. These buildings have an outer wooden frame and inner stone or brick walls, giving them a look found almost nowhere else in the world.
