Arboretum in Karnieszewice

The Arboretum in Karnieszewice is a botanical garden featuring a large collection of trees and plant specimens spread across spacious grounds. The visitor area offers designated walking paths, bridges, rest spots, and a pavilion for guests to enjoy the landscape.

The arboretum was founded in 1881 by the Pomeranian Forestry Association and started with experimental growing of black pine and Virginia juniper varieties. It gradually developed into an established collection site for diverse tree species.

The garden holds two memorial oak trees: one grown from an acorn blessed by Pope John Paul II and another honoring those lost in the Katyn massacre. These trees carry personal and historical meaning that visitors can experience when walking among them.

The garden is located roughly 15 kilometers northeast of Koszalin and is easily accessible by car. Free entry and well-maintained paths make it a relaxed place for a casual walk at your own pace.

The garden contains several Douglas firs with remarkable proportions that rank among the largest known specimens in the country. These towering conifers demonstrate how favorable the growing conditions are for such tree varieties in this location.
