Bydgoski Zespół Placówek Opiekuńczo-Wychowawczych

The Bydgoski Zespół Placówek Opiekuńczo-Wychowawczych is a three-story red brick building with historicist architecture located at Traugutta Street 5. The facade features symmetrical wings and numerous large windows designed to accommodate various functional areas for institutional use.

The building was constructed in 1905 with a 400,000 mark donation from businessman Heinrich Dietz and received approval from German Emperor Wilhelm II. The foundation marked an early approach to organized child care and protection for orphaned children in the city.

The building was originally designed as an orphanage foundation and has served an important social role for vulnerable children since its founding. The red brick walls and symmetrical design reflect how the institution was meant to provide structure and dignity to those in its care.

The building is located near the city center and is accessible on foot from main streets. Keep in mind that this is an active institution, so visits may be limited or require advance arrangement.

A commemorative plaque on the fence wall honors founder Heinrich Dietz and was installed in 1996 during Bydgoszcz's 650th anniversary celebration. This installation shows how the city publicly recognizes shared history at meaningful moments.
