Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows in Limanowa

The church features stone-encrusted exterior walls and a tall tower crowned with a neo-Baroque cupola, incorporating traditional highland wood building elements.

Following a devastating fire in 1769 that destroyed the original structure, a wooden church stood from 1776 until 1909 before the current building was completed in 1918.

The main altar displays a Gothic sculpture of Our Lady of Sorrows, while the interior contains artistic decorations including polychromes, stained glass windows and mosaics.

The basilica maintains regular religious services and welcomes visitors to participate in ceremonies throughout the year, with information available through official channels.

A medieval linden wood pietà from 1300-1375 received two coronations from Karol Wojtyła, first as Metropolitan of Kraków and later as Pope.
